3play+ began as a weekly jam session and brings that relaxed, spontaneous energy to live performance. The band “demonstrates a breadth of vision and diversity” where “the stylistic territory ranges from free-improv space jam to reggae to straight-ahead swing to rock to jazz waltz” and even “includes a beautiful and offbeat cover of Dylan's "The Times They Are A’Changin'."

Trumpeter Phil Grenadier lays his “luminous free-flowing constructs” over the “ferocious, metronomic intensity” of Lello Molinari’s bass lines. Pianist Josh Rosen “evokes a refreshingly relaxed openness…yet burns with the best.” In this the case, the best is virtuoso drummer Marcello Pellitteri, a "wonderful musician” as Gary Burton put it, “one of the most talented to come along in a long time."
